1. Silsila: A path-breaking 1981 movie directed by Yash Chopra himself. The movie did not do so well at the box office, but the people still love to watch it time and again. It achieved a cult status among the audiences and the sizzling chemistry of Big B and Rekha which is still a hot topic of discussion today came to the forefront with the movie.
2. Kabhi Kabhi: A classic cult movie loved by all ranges of audiences. The film released in 1976 and was Yash Chopra’s second stint with directing. The movie went on to become the 8th highest grosser of the year. The movie though was found confusing by some considering there were so many cross-connections in the movie, but everyone loves the exceptional and excellent music by Khayyam in the movie.
3. Chandni: This movie was a blockbuster movie starring Rishi Kapoor and Sri Devi, released in 1989. It is today one of the most watched movies of Bollywood. The huge profits that this movie brought in brought an end to the director Yash Chopra’s lean phase. People simply loved the tracks, the superb chemistry between the actors, the story, the plot and practically everything about the movie.
4.Dil to pagal hai: This one of Yash Chopra’s biggest romantic musical hits. The movie created ripples among the Indian cinema by winning numerous awards and widespread appreciation from fans and critics alike. It was a modern age film and proved to the world that Yash Chopra movies were always with the times. The movie portrayed the actors – Madhuri, Karisma and SRK in such a beautiful way that the audiences went out dancing.
5. Veer Zara: The movie was a classic “heer ranjha” saga of love, the tragedy of separation, courage and sacrifice, set in the backdrop of the rivalry among neighbours – India and Pakistan. The film marked the return of Yash Chopra to an art that nobody could do like him – directing, after full seven years, after his last direction Dil to pagal hai. The movie was a highly anticipated release, and made one of the highest grosser of the year as also one of the top grossing movies of Bollywood. It also captured all major awards for the year. It also got the most popular film award at the National awards.
The movie – Lamhe, also made to the list and was at par with Chandni. The film starring Anil Kapoor and Sri Devi in a double role, was a fantastic movie. Though Sri Devi claims that the climax was a little too unconvincing for her, the movie goers loved the movie. The track “Kabhi main kahu, kabhi tum kaho…” is considered to be one of the most romantic tracks ever even today.
