Summer vacations are here and what’s a better time to start binge-watching TV series to while away your time?
Here are 10 underrated series you should watch if you haven’t already.
A) Brooklyn nine-nine (Netflix)
This is set in the backdrop of a police station, specifically the 99th precinct. A group of eccentric detectives with the help of their broody but brilliant captain solve crimes while also cracking jokes to escape the environment of the grim murders. This is a great show to binge watch when you want to relax and the punch lines just take this show up a notch.
B) The Middle (Amazon Prime)
A family sit-com set in a small town called Orson in Indiana, USA where the story revolves around a lower middle class Heck family. They show the day to day struggles of all the 5 family members; the parents and the 3 children where everyone of them have their own quirks to get through life; be it domestic, work or school. This is a show that you can watch with your family to un-wind your day with a big dose of laughter with some meaningful lessons about family and love too.
C) The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Amazon Prime)
This show, set in the 1950’s, focuses on the monotonous life of Miriam “Midge” Maisel. But, she then discovers an unknown talent of hers: standup comedy! This turns her whole life upside – down and she begins the journey of exploring her talent and tries to make a full-fledged career out of it. All the women out there, watch this show, as it will empower you to take risks and pursue something that you like.
A) Bates motel (Amazon Prime)
Based on Alfred Hitchcock’s famous movie, Psycho, Bates motel is the story of Norman Bates who lives with his mother Norma in a motel that they own. The son is mentally ill and the show portrays his psyche wherein his mental health slowly degrades in his teenage years. His strange possessiveness towards his mother is also revealed. A well written psychological horror but, beware, it is not for the faint hearted.
B) Hannibal (Netflix)
Hannibal Lecter, a forensic psychiatrist who works as a consultant for the FBI, has another side to his personality. He is a psychopathic cannibalistic serial killer who has dodged the FBI for years. Get ready to see some gory scenes and learn the thought process of a psychopath!
3. Action / thriller
A) Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D (Netflix)
A team of highly skilled agents, led by Agent Phil Coulson, form a global law enforcement organization called S.H.I.E.L.D. They deal with unusual enemies and alien species, things that the constitutionally appointed law enforcers don’t tackle on an everyday basis. Marvel fans, you will not be disappointed! It’s everything one can expect from a thriller movie, just converted into a TV show format.
B) Lucifer (Netflix)
Lucifer Morningstar, owner of a nightclub, is a popular playboy who is also known for giving out favours to the needy. He somehow gets involved with the local police and later on assists them in solving tricky cases along with detective Chloe Decker. But he also has a dark secret; he is the Devil who has taken a sabbatical in Los Angeles, from ruling Hell! The suspense seems never ending but the result is sweet and worth it, because who knew concepts like Hell and Heaven, angels and demons existed?
A) Sherlock (Netflix)
The infamous Sherlock Holmes along with his sidekick Dr. John Watson, solve peculiar crimes and often help the local British police. But Sherlock also has a nemesis that he has to be wary of at all times; Jim Moriarty, who is hell bent on destroying Holmes’ life. If mystery is your cup of tea, watch this tv show version of the celebrated Arthur Conan Doyle books. You will not be disappointed.
B) Daredevil (Netflix)
Another Marvel character, Matt Murdock is a blind lawyer by day, vigilante by night. His day job requires him to depend on the justice system which is a stark contrast to his night job where he takes up the law in his hands to save his neighborhood. If you are obsessed with Marvel and want to see a calm and collected superhero instead of the always furious and vendetta seeking ones, give this show a try as it is sure to make you love Marvel Universe even more.
C) Shameless (Amazon Prime)
Set in the South side of Chicago, it is the story of the Gallagher family where the father is an alcoholic. It describes the lives of the 6 kids who are negatively affected by Frank’s apathetic behaviour towards them and how the eldest daughter in the house, Fiona, takes care of her younger siblings. This drama has ever developing plots and new characters will be introduced like one drinks water in summer, but you won’t forget the lead characters as they take you on a journey you will remember for a long time.
