Following the Star Trek franchise, Star Trek into Darkness is the very fresh and 12th instalment of Star Trek which is directed by J.J. Abrams and written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. This fresh sequel is also directed and written by the same with extra masala on a script by Damon Lindelof.
The base characters in this sequel remain the same. Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, John Cho, and Bruce Greenwood play their respective roles from the previous movie and along with Chris Pine as Captain Kirk. Benedict Cumberbatch, Peter Waller and Alice Eve round out the film’s main cast.
Well, it’s a hardcore sci-fi film and being a sequel it relates with its previous episode. So, if you haven’t seen Star Trek then it’s better don’t go for Star Trek into darkness. But, if you have then don’t miss it as it will take you to a different level. Moreover it’s fully packed with masala: exciting, thrilling, funny, emotional and contains everything you want in a summer blockbuster. The USP however is the special effects.
The story is something about a Starfleet agent (Benedict Cumberbatch) who has turned on the organization, bombing a library in London and setting guns on the headquarters in San Francisco. Many Starfleet members are killed, and Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) and his Enterprise crew must trek to the Klingon home world where the criminal has fled and dispatch him with extreme prejudice. And loads of sci-fi has been thrown in with ample measure.
Fans of the Star Trek franchise who have seen all the 12 episodes will notice that this movie is influenced by its 2nd and 10th instalment i.e., Star Trek : Wrath of Khans (1982) and Star Trek : Nemesis (2002). And actually, the ‘Trek’ fans have more expectations from its sequel. Some parts of the story and the ending were quite messed-up. It looks like Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman concentrated on coffee and donuts instead of the story.
A special advice to the viewers that please keep your brains at home if you are going to watch Star Trek Into Darkness and if possible then borrow ‘extra brains’ from your neighbours or friends because while watching the movie you need to move with its rhythm which is actually unstoppable and a movie which doesn’t bother waiting. You need to revisit some part in your mind to understand the story and the movie of course. If you’ll concentrate on your girlfriend or popcorn then believe me, you will surely skip some part which may deprive you of full entertainment. Infact, I would rather suggest to watch the movie alone with peace.
If you want to see more modified version of Star Trek with super special effects then don’t waste your time just book a ticket and enjoy Captain Kirk with his crew again.
I give this movie 3 stars just for Captain Kirk and the superb SFX.
