Bala is a 2019 Indian comedy film directed by Amar Kaushik and produced by Maddock Films and Jio Studios, starring Ayushman Khurana, Bhumi Pednekar, Yami Gautam and Javed Jaffrey to name a few.
A 25-year-old young man suffering from Alopecia (premature balding) loses confidence in going out in public with his bald pate. Societal pressure, facing ridicule result in lack of confidence and inability to take the embarrassment in his stride.
The audience also gets to witness how the baldness affects his relationship with two girls in his life.
Ayushman Khurana yet again strikes gold with his movie choice as it portrays a great story which adds to his brilliant performance.
Bhumi Pednekar and Yami Gautam are both superb in their performances too.
Saurabh Shukla, Javed Jaffrey, Seema Pahwa and Abhishek Bannerjee are noteworthy.
The movie portrays discrimination against people who don’t look pretty may they be tall, short, fat, thin, balding, hairy, dark or fair. The issue society creates for such people in making them feel embarrassed, blows their self-confidence to smithereens.
The film is successful in addressing the lesser-talked about problems, as it deals with the issue and also creates a solution for it.
Bala conveys an important message ‘to love and accept yourself the way you are’ something that most of us often tend to forget amidst the chaos of fitting into the roles that are set by the standards of society.
No one will love you if you don’t love yourself first.
