MIT and Harvard invite Super 30 founder Anand Kumar

The man behind the extraordinary Super 30 programme, Anand Kumar has been invited by two of the worldÔÇÖs prestigious educational institutions Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University to speak on his globally commended initiative to coach students from the underprivileged sections for admission to IIT. Anand Kumar will speak at MIT Media lab on September 30 and at the International Education Policy programme of Harvard University on October 1 as well.

Clearing the extremely competitive and daunting entrance exam for the prestigious IIT is a cherished dream for many aspiring students. But everyone is not privileged enough to afford the exorbitant coaching fees for premier training institutes. For scores of aspiring students coming from a humble background who wish to crack the IIT entrance test, mathematician and educationalist Anand Kumar from Patna, Bihar is the answer to their prayers. Anand Kumar is the man behind the globally recognised Super 30 programme which began in 2002 and wherein students from underprivileged sections are coached for the IIT-JEE.

Anand Kumar himself secured admission to the Cambridge University, but couldn’t study due to unfortunate circumstances and financial constraints. Anand began teaching Mathematics since 1992 and started his own institute Ramanujan School of Mathematics with just two students but with time and efforts it grew to thirty six and later in just three years time around 500 students joined. Motivated by a poor studentÔÇÖs eagerness to coach under him for the IIT-JEE who couldn’t afford the annual admission fee, Anand Kumar thought of the brilliant idea to start the now famous Super 30 programme.

Through the Super 30 programme 30 brilliant students from economically backward sections are shortlisted through a competitive test. During the year long programme these students are tutored for the IIT-JEE entrance exam, provided study materials and accommodation for free. Since 2002 to 2014 a total of 308 students out of 360 students have successfully made it to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

Anand KumarÔÇÖs simple thought to provide the right opportunity to eager and brilliant minds coming from humble backgrounds and the extraordinary results proves that education is the key to change and the means to deal with worldÔÇÖs problems. Here’s to a truly wonderful visionary like Anand Kumar whose hard work and dedication is putting India on the global pedestal.
