Lovable characters in sitcoms

1)Joey Tribbiani (Friends)
Played by Matt LeBlanc, Joey is a struggler and a simple-minded womanizer who is perennially hungry. His stupidity and the classic way of saying, ‘How you doing?’ was a running gag throughout the series. Sample this:

Joey: If the Homo sapiens were in fact Homo sapiens…is that why they’re extinct?
Ross: Joey, Homo sapiens are people!
Joey: Hey, I’m not judging!

2)Sheldon Cooper (The Big Bang Theory)

Words fail to describe Sheldon. He is a narcissistic eccentric theoretical physicist who is finicky about hygiene and oblivious to sarcasm. He is almost robotic in his actions and mannerisms, and exhibits an almost child-like fascination towards video games and trains. His oft repeated quote is ‘Bazinga!’ when he thinks he has played a prank on someone. Just to give you an idea about him, here’s a little quote:

Sheldon: One cries because one is sad. I cry because others are stupid, and that makes me sad.

On another occasion:
Leonard: Can you tell that I’m sweating?
Sheldon: No, the crescent-shaped stains under your armpits conceal it quite nicely

3)Barney Stinson (How I Met Your Mother)
Barney is a character which fetched Neil Patrick Harris more awards for HIMYM than all of his other shows combined. He is an uncaring serial womanizer, who displays rare moments of sensitivity and warmth. He is forever ‘suited up’ and works with a big MNC, although no one knows what he exactly does. In his words, he’s ‘awesome!’

Barney: Lesson one, lose the goatee, it doesn’t go with your suit.
Ted: I’m not wearing a suit.
Barney: Lesson two, get a suit. Suits are cool, exhibit A. [points to his own suit] Lesson three, and don’t even think about getting married till you’re thirty.

4) Cameron Tucker (Modern Family)
Cameron, also known as Cam, is an outgoing, flamboyant and super dramatic character in the hit series Modern Family, who is in a relationship with his partner Mitchell and has an adopted daughter Lily. He is a stay at home dad, and overtly emotional at times, especially when it comes to his looks or fashion. Despite being gay, he is deeply interested in sports and hunting, and does not shy away from doing supposed manly stuff.

Cam: When I get home I’m gonna scrub this place like it’s a crime scene, which it is because you murdered joy.

5) Howard Wolowitz (The Big Bang Theory)
Howard Wolowitz is works as an engineer in Caltech, and is ridiculed by his friends often for not having a doctorate. He fancies himself as a ladies’ man, and dresses up in colourful tight clothes to ‘attract’ women. Often called creepy, he is a caring guy at heart, and still lives with his mother. Howard is best described in this quote:

Howard: Love is not a sprint, it’s a marathon. A relentless pursuit that ends only when she falls into your arms. Or hits you with pepper spray…
