Empresario, the Business plan contest recently organised by NITIE saw an all-girl team of Ruchi Tushar and Nandini Dawar from FMS Delhi walk away with top honours and a cash prize of Rs 10,000. The winning B plan focused on medical tourism and the rest of the ideas were equally innovative. Guruprasad Datar and P Rajsuman of Fore School, Delhi came in second with a biz plan for a “Snowpark” in Bangalore, while Sneha M and Joe Paul of Christ College were third with their idea of a chain of pet healthcare centres.
The man who captured the hearts of the audience however was G. Natarajan of Velammal college of management & computer studies, Chennai. Natarajan’s project titled FETMMA was focused on providing employment and income in rural Tamil Nadu through a profesionally managed and marketed co-operative network. Although the judges found many loopholes with the project, for sheer passion he was the undisputed winner!
One unique aspect of Empresario was that each of the five finalists were teamed up with an entrepreneur who acted as a mentor. A great idea, which other B plan contests should definitely emulate!
