Comic Con – Work Hard, Play Harder!

India is the country where good events are as rare as the blue moon, or Vivek Oberoi’s hit movies. Usually if you want a good event with crazy stuff to do, you’d have to wait for Ganpati, or Dahihandi, but that is enjoyable for a different section of crowd. Some of us prefer a more subtle way of enjoying life, like becoming Voldemort to destroy the planet and enslave humanity!

And especially for maniacs like us, there is good news. Now there is no reason to hide that Wolverine suit, or the Catwoman spandex you have! The time has come to proudly don those guises and roam around with your other crazily dressed brethren!

Comic Con is finally happening here!

To all you people who don’t know much about Comic Con, it’s a convention that is held every now and then around happening places in the country! And you can enter the Convention dressed as your fave character, be it Anime, Game, Comic, or Movies. There is also tons of stuff to buy there for the shopaholics, and not to mention plenty of photo opportunities for those shutter crazy idiots.

It’s the craziest, most awesometastic thing to happen anywhere in India. The only place where you can dress up as Goku, or Lara Croft, or Joker, or even as a female Bane! It just recently happened in Hyderabad in Hitex Exhibition Center, on 21-22 Sept. So u have just missed it, and so did I.

My colleague Garima, however managed to spare time for the event, by throwing most of her work on me. Although I wouldn’t blame her, if I had the opportunity then I would have done the same. Garima took her while to prepare for the Cosplay competition that is held during the Comic Con. The Convention lasted for two days, during which the judges checked the contestants for uniqueness of the character that the person intends to play and the costumes itself.
There was plenty of competition, both good and bad. They had wolverine with cardboard claws, they had a Eco friendly Wonder Woman, they also had a Batman whose parents were still alive! But there was guy dressed up as Joker, and apparently he was so good that Batman would have wet his pants. Ultimately he was the one who won the contest. But my friend Garima also won the Cosplay contest on the second day, dressed as the famous ‘Amane Misa’ from the creepy anime ‘Death Note’.

Cosplaying might not be a really famous thing here in India, but it is something that could catch on! It is perfect alternate to world peace! Imagine if everybody is busy preparing for the next cosplay contest, nobody has time to wage wars. Plus the satisfaction of knowing there are other freaks like you who devoutly follow your fave shows/movies/games is awesome. Meeting new friends dressed up like freak-shows is the secret to success of the ComicCon.

Of course there aren’t many celebrities around the convention, VJ Hose showed up and some hotshots from EA were also present. But this event is not about celebs, it’s about you! With a proper cosplay, you are the celebrity! And people from everywhere just want to take pictures with you! So if you want your ten minutes of stardom, this is the place you want to be.

To everybody who is depressed that you missed such a cool event, don’t fret!

Comic Con is coming again this December 21-22 at the Bombay Exhibition center in Goregaon(E), as MFCC, and this time even I am going to jump on the bandwagon. If you guys want to come along, please do! The entry is free!
I know I am there; in fact I’m already planning my cosplay right now. I’m going to be dressed as Dante from Devil May Cry. So make sure none of you dress up as demons, because I might just have to slay you. See you there guys!
