The Cake Studio in Lokhandwala Complex is a favorite with both plebs and celebs. JAM speaks to owner Desiree, who’s been in the baking business since 1991, to find out the secret of her success.
Q. What are the different types of cake you make?
A. Theme cakes, tea time cakes, desserts, cartoon cakes. Everything from Noddy’s car to Harry Potter.
Q. What is cake making all about?
A. It’s all about sugar craft and involves a lot of work.
Q. Can one take up baking as a part time profession?
A. No. It’s a full time profession and one should be motivated and must have love for the work as its a tedious job.
Q. What does it pay?
A. It is definitely a lucrative career. You can start off at Rs 5-10, 000 a month. There is a lot of investment and the employment needed is more in terms of staff. You need a minimum of 6 staff workers to start.
Q. What are your future plans?
A. To open a school or write a book.
Q. Any of your personal favorites?
A. Strawberry Pina colada and fresh cream cakes.
