You know you are in Seattle when…

You know you are in Seattle when…

  1. Every other person you know works either for Microsoft, Amazon or Boeing.
  2. There is water everywhere.
  3. You suddenly become a coffee drinker and know at least 10 different types of coffees.
  4. You know the difference between Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Thai food. You can also differentiate between Coffees from various coffee-shops. You can easily tell explain how latte, mocha, espresso, macchiato, cappuccino, ristretto and Americano. The type of coffee you drink depends on mood, weather and how tired you are. You look forward to various limited time offerings (like Pumpkin Spice latte) coffees. Also, you are unusually excited about the new holiday cups from Starbucks.

  1. You see Desis frequent Aahar, Chilli’s, Annapurna, Saffron Grill, Daawat, Chutneys and the likes. Every desi party has to end at ‘Burger and Kabob Hut’.
  2. You visit Seattle space needle only when someone visits you.
  3. You love Pike place market and the waterfront.

  1. It rains often and yet you do not feel the need to carry an umbrella.
  2. You can see Mt. Rainier from anywhere and everywhere and yet cannot have enough of the view. Mt. Rainier is beauty.
  3. You wear shorts the moment sun comes out and the temperature goes a little above 10 C.
  4. You buy shades every time you go out of Seattle because you never need them while in Seattle.
  5. Seattle being sunny is a bigger occasion than your birthday.
  6. ‘High wind warnings’ mean something.
  7. You might end up getting high on weed while walking on the streets because… well… Weed is legal in Washington state.
  8. You make mandatory winter trips to snowy destinations for ski and snow-boarding. Also someone you know visits Canada every week.
  9. Everyone you meet is passionate about Seahawks, Huskies, Mariners and Sounders. Seattleites take pride in them. Fridays are Blue or Purple days.

  1. People pronounce words like Issaquah, Snoqualmie, Sequim, Puyallup, Enumclaw, Snohomish etc. with ease.
  2. It can be sunny and 0 C at the same time.
  3. You are actually shocked when you visit a place where it has not rained in a while or cannot spot enough greenery and cascades.
  4. In winters, it is dark when you go to work as well as when you return from work.
  5. You take a bus, link, ferry, uber, car or all of the above to reach any place.
  6. Summers = Hikes + Beaches + Camping + Biking
  7. The weather goes from sunny -> rainy -> cold in a matter of minutes.
  8. Everyone around you is very friendly and apologetic. You find it extremely easy to exchange your life stories with random strangers and end up saying “Sorry” when you don’t have a dollar for the homeless.
  9. You know the difference between compost, recycle, landfill and trash.
  10. Every time (any time) you are on a/any bridge you look at the beautiful view and say “This is why I love Seattle”.
