The quiet volcano in Iceland that raised havoc with its ash for publicity
Volcano Eyjafjallajokull used to be a quiet volcano on an island called Iceland. It just sat there quietly, not bothering anyone. Despite being located in the north, Volcano Eyjafjallajokull had no intentions of migrating to another location and stealing the job of the local populace. Neither was Volcano Eyjafjallajokull ever convicted of peddling cocaine in his college days. Eyjafjallajokull was a good volcano. Everyone loved him. People used to ReTweet Eyjafjallajokull tweets on twitter and like his status messages on facebook.
The only trouble it caused was for people who were trying to spell or pronounce his name. Eyjafjallajokull had developed a keen interest in acting. After acting in a few plays, he was spotted by a famous director who lived in a closet. He was signed up for a movie called ‘My name is Eyjafjallajokull. Can you please get the spelling correct?’ The tagline of the movie was ‘All volcanoes are not terrorists’. He wanted everyone to watch his movie. So for publicity Eyjafjallajokull threw a lot of volcanic ash in the air. Thus, Eyjafjallajokull shot to fame by shooting a lot of volcanic ash. To prevent confusion, ‘volcanic ash of Eyjafjallajokull’ is quite different from the ‘Indian actress called Ash’.
Some may still be confused as to what exactly is the difference. For these confused folks, here’s a table of the most obvious differences. This question may appear in your question paper for around 4 marks.
You can learn any of the following four points:
Now, coming back to Eyjafjallajokull, one man who was supposed to handle Eyjafjallajokull is Shashi Tharoor. Tharoor, being the Minister of State for External Affairs (currently ex), should have tackled Eyjafjallajokull’s Rakhi Sawant-like behaviour, as it was clearly an external affair. He turned out to be all tweet and no action when it came to Eyjafjallajokull. He was busy having a tweet war with Lalit Modi… clearly an internal affair. Why can’t ministers stick to their own posts? Also, is there a Minister of State for Extra Marital Affairs? If there isn’t one, can I take that post?
