The Game of University Admissions; Engineering

The Game of university selection has started. Let’s choose the best college as per your passion and your rank. Though rank is not an only indicator of your talent.
Don’t get disheartened if your rank is not good. Remember, “If you get a lime, make its lemonade”.
Questions :
[1] What was your passion till date?
Choose your branch as per your passion.Remember,” Your heart is free have the courage to follow it, but take your brain along with it”If you are the national level or international level leader in your passion like Angad Daryani, Ankit Fadia then you are an exception.Ankit Fadia went to Stanford (ranked 1st in the world) and 2014 JEE advanced topper is going to MIT, USA for pursuing his passion, Physics. It is justified If they will leave a good branch in IITs.
[2] What is your rank? (compare it with the latest cut offs 2014) Stay positive and apply for your dream university too as well as apply to universities as per your rank.
If you can get the good branch in old IITs, then blindly take that. Also keep the IISc (Indian Institute of Science Bangalore) on top of your list.
Good Branch: Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Computer Science, electronics, Electronics and telecommunication, chemical. You can add some more as per market needs.
Blindly take the good branch in old IITs. If you will do well in your Btech then you will definitely get the good job. There is Bioscience and Bioengineering field in IIT Bombay. It is also good. Dr. Mukherjee, Dr. Shrivastava are the key people in the department.
[3] You are getting the unpopular branch in old IITs?
If you are going to learn under a good professor, with good research work [ verified from DBLP, ResearchGate websites.]. Then I think  you should not leave the opportunity.
Take the unpopular branch from old IITs and during your Btech explore your passion.
Nobody is going to stop you, to attend the software development competition, robotics competitions happening in the campus of IIT B, Delhi, madras and other IITs.
There are many clubs for mathematics, Astronomy, computer science, hacking, robotics, aeromodelling, business entrepreneurship etc.
If you have  remarkable projects in Computer Science field, electronics field, robotics field and you have a degree from IIT.
I think, nobody is going to stop you if you want to switch your field.
IIT students such as:
—    Achyut Godbole: the chemical engineer from IIT B: but he became a CEO of Patni, L&T infotech, and many other leading IT companies.
—     Ravi, who topped, GATE CS 2015: He is a mechanical engineer from IIT Kanpur.
One strategy is: Take any branch in IIT. But still pursue your passions.
Apply this strategy to only top IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Madras, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Roorkee, Guwahati, IIT BHU). I count IIT Hyderabad in top IITs. You can get the reasons in previous articles.
[4] Getting a good branch in new IITs?
Take it, because you are the one who have qualified in both JEE advanced and JEE mains. JEE advanced qualified are the only people who can apply for IITS. this way, the brand value of IIT will be maintained. Your batchmates/friends are going to be the talented students of India. You will be benefited in group projects and group assignments.
If you feel, you want to go for Old NIT instead of New IIT. Visit the NITs and IIT where you might get an admission.
Check the campus & facilities, talk with the faculties. Go through the research papers of faculties on the internet. If you want to judge any college. Judge, it based on what are the new researches happening in the colleges.Check the projects did by students, check the placement records, internship records. Opportunities for abroad internships, exchange programs with abroad universities with good ranking.
You decide by using above-mentioned criteria. Whether New IIT or Old NIT.
Sequence for selection of University
IIT /BITs—> IIIT Hyd –> NIT –> all other colleges UGC/AICTE approved ( for Btech): Some students may think some NITs are better than IIIT Hyderabad. But it is their choice.
For Masters: Please go Abroad. IITs, BITs Pilani are great institutes. IIIT Hyderabad.
For Ph.D.: Abroad
Manipal Institute of Tech ( Satya Nadella, Rajeev Soori) , VIT, Vellore are good institutes for Btech/BE. VIT students get to do their internships in IITs and IISc. Dr Ted M from MIT USA was visiting professor in VIT a few years ago.
We will take a trip of abroad universities in next articles !!!
