Super 30 : 27 out of 30 students make it to IIT

In India 14 lakh students appeared for IIT JEE exam in this year 2014 of which only around 150,000 qualify for JEE advanced which is the second level in IIT B.Tech admission. These 150,000 students compete for just 9,885 seats in the 17 IITs combined. Clearing JEE advanced is a big deal which needs rigorous training for two years through reputed and money making coaching centers. India knows that Kota has a plethora of such coaching centers. But would you believe that 27 OUT OF 30 STUDENTS (each from a very poor economic background) cracked the prestigious JEE advanced??

SUPER 30 was founded by mathematician Anand Kumar in the year 2002 in Patna, Bihar. Super 30 is best known for coaching economically backward students for JEE. Every year he takes 30 students through a competitive test for this super 30 programme. He provides study materials, coaching, lodging and also food absolutely for FREE. No conditions apply. All you have to do is clear his maths exam.

This year 27 out of his 30 students cracked the IIT JEE advanced and made it to the Indian Institute of Technologies (IIT). These students are the sons and daughters of cobblers, roadside vendors, grocers, farm labor, auto rickshaw drivers who were desperately looking for education.

“I also want to contribute something to the society, especially for the poor children, after completing my studies: says Dhananjay Kumar, son of grocer. He would save money by selling vegetables to take care of his book expenses. His burning desire and passion, not poverty drove him to steal RS.50 as he could not earn money to apply for super30.

Mani Ram Singh from UP said “I knew there was not much I could do for my physical disability”. A boy whose father could not afford treatment for his paralysis attack.

Another boy, Sudhir from Nalanda district had even polished shoes in his school days quoted “the best way to take revenge was to acquire real power through education”. He recalls about being angry when someone he polished abused sudhir without paying him.

Now do you have any lame excuses that you keep telling yourself??
