Snapchat: Why it is a kick-ass strategy for your brand!

When Snapchat made an entry into the market, we weren’t really sure what we thought of it. A pretty cool concept, but we wondered whether it would be adopted by a large number of people. And hey, what is a messaging app if not almost every person is on it! Right? \

Snapchat is a photo messaging application where users can take photos, record videos, add text and drawings, and send them to a list of recipients. These sent photographs and videos are known as “Snaps”.

If we think of reasons to love Snapchat, a whole list can be noted down! The very spontaneity of the app is what makes it so much fun. Human beings are visual creatures and as it is rightly said, ‘a picture speaks a 1000 words’. To be able to send a picture/video along with some fun text or drawings scribbled over it is a unique and exciting mode of online conversations.What seems like a confusion between a plus point and a negative point is the feature where users set a time limit for how long recipients can view their Snaps (1 to 10 seconds) after which they will be hidden from the recipient’s device and deleted from Snapchat’s servers. However, the new Snapchat Stories feature allows items to be available for up to 24 hours (bonus for brands using the app!) Anyway, this self destructing method of Snapchat might get a tad bit frustrating if you are the kind of person who likes keeping anything and everything they are sent thinking of them as precious memories! On the other hand, it’s a relief that for a change everything isn’t recorded and stored as proof of anything or everything that happens in your life. There’s a sense of liberation with being able to send a funny photo of yourself knowing that your friend won’t save it and use it to blackmail you sometime later, no?

Snapchat might feel like an app only beneficial to the youth, you couldn’t be more wrong! Snapchat could be one heck of an awesome app for your business too! Just think about it, if your brand’s target audience is in the age group 13-25, Snapchat may be a gift from heaven for you, if used right! It logs over 400 million messages every day, not bad eh? Some brilliant ways a brand can cash in using Snapchat is by informing its users about holiday sales, discounts and distributing coupon codes through the app.The sense of urgency to not miss the message will add to the excitement on receiving a coupon code that feels like a privilege on this app unlike on any other app where it would be there for you to check it out even 10 days later.Another way you can use this app is to preview your new products before they are out anywhere else on the web! This helps in building brand loyalty because you feel like a special privileged member to see the new products before others!And let’s not forget that the new Snapchat Stories feature can be used for what it was meant, to share your brand’s story! Tell them all the interesting facts with some awesome scribbles over it and see your fan following just rise! That’s the magic of fun, interesting content!

 

If the only thing we’d say is a major disadvantage for brands is the selection procedure of who the message reaches to! Pretty tedious!

Another interesting feature that we noticed about Snapchat is how in an age of constantly decreasing attention spans, Snapchat has actually managed to capture the attention of its users for a whole 10 seconds when every other social media website and app is based solely on the scrolling of timelines and discovering new content every second to keep our attention. Quite an achievement we’d say!
