Pearl Jam recently released a greatest hits album titled 'rearviewmirror'. Here's all the things you ever wanted to know about Pearl Jam but never knew who to ask.
- Pearl Jam are: Eddie Vedder (vocals), Stone Gossard (guitars), Mike McCready (guitars), Jeff Ament (bass) and Jack Irons (drums).
- The original name for Pearl Jam was Mookie Blaylock, after the NBA player.
- Pearl Jam was formed after the lead singer of Mother Love Bone died of a herion overdose.
- Jack Irons of the Chili Peppers (and later, PJ) was a basketball buddy of Eddie Vedder, and is responsible for Eddie getting the demo tape that led to the forming of Pearl Jam.
- Eddie wrote the words to BLACK during the plane flight to try out for the band.
= The band was in the middle of recording a tribute to their late lead singer Andy Wood with Woods former roommate Chris Cornell when Eddie arrived for a tryout. Eddie was a huge fan of Chris and was invited to sing some backup vocals on some tracks. The album "Temple of the Dog" (named after lyrics of Andy Woods) was released locally with mild success, but after Pearl Jam took off, it was re-released nationally and sold millions.
- During their concert last June in Detroit, Vedder wore a rubber George Bush mask.
- After making videos for three songs on their first album ("Alive", "Even Flow", and most notably "Jeremy"), Pearl Jam refused to make any more videos, until "Do the Evolution",...
from the album "Yield", in which the band does not actually appear.
