From a firebrand journalist to an influential political leader who played a major role in shaping the Marathi identity, Balasaheb Thackeray’s journey is also the story of birth and evolution of Shiv Sena. The film chronicles the life and times of the charismatic leader whose legacy continues to live on through his words and deeds.
What’s Good – Actor Nawazuddin Siddique blows life into the late political leader’s character and manages to imbibe everything possible, the mannerisms, the look, and perfect hand gestures too, a brilliant performance nevertheless.
The movie like most Biographies does not try and install the thought of the leader as a hero and it surprisingly portrays the true picture that he was a firebrand orator and did take care of his Marathi people and favor them over others, but it also shows his traits of an egoist, a narcissist, a territorial man, a goon, a bully and a violent person who would achieve what he wants, by all means, good or bad with no respect for the rules of democracy or the law of the land.
What’s Bad – The screenplay is not intriguing in many places and the movies pace slacks a couple of times making it boring in pieces.
My Verdict – A well made Biography on a popular leader and his good and bad traits also portraying the inception of the Shiv Sena Party.
My Rating – 3.5 of 5 stars
