Mardaani is a Hindi crime thriller directed by Gopi Puthran and produced by Yash Raj Films. The movie stars Rani Mukherjee, Vishal Jethwa, Avneet Kaur, Shruti Bapna, Rajesh Sharma among others. The film is the second installment in the series of the same name.
Shivani Shivaji Roy (Rani Mukherjee) locks horns with the devil incarnate, a young and remorseless serial killer who is brutally raping and murdering young women. The boy goes on with his crime spree whereas Shivani vows to catch him and bring this dread to an end.
What’s Good –
Rani Mukherjee is the heart and the soul of the movie and gives in a solid performance. All the emotions portrayed by her make the story more believable and engaging.
Debutante Vishal Jethwa as the main Antagonist is simply demonic and his eyes his expressions his acting performance is better than even Rani herself
The plot is an awakening and a lesson to our patriarchal society where men think that women only excel in being better housewives.
The movie also makes a strong point in raising awareness about the appalling status of women’s safety in our country. The film also portrays registered cases from real-life incidences which makes it all the more nerve-racking and mind-altering.
What’s Bad –
There are a few storyline glitches and directional errors but nothing noticeably vile. The film might be a little graphic for those who are highly sensitive. However, all the scenes played an important role in the narrative.
Mardani 2 is an ode to the plight and crimes against women in India and an awakening call for our lawmakers and society. It not only operates as a film but an eye-opener for the masses, with a message that the times we are in calls for change and we are ones who can make it happen.
