Delhi Election Watch (DEW) and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of 140 re-contesting candidates including 66 re-contesting MLAs contesting in Delhi State Assembly Elections.
MLAs who are contesting again: How much richer did they get between 2008 and 2013?
Average Assets in 2008 Elections: Assets of 66 MLAs of all parties in 2008 were Rs 2.90 cr per MLA
Average Assets in 2013 Elections: Asset of these same 66 MLAs in 2013 is Rs 10.43 crores per MLA
- Average Asset growth in 5 years (2008-2013): Rs 7.53 Crores.
- Percentage of growth of the sitting MLAs is an average of 259%.
- ADR says that this is only what they have chosen to declare in an affidavit!
The table below provides the party-wise categorization of average asset increase of re-contesting MLAs. Financial details of 66 re-contesting MLAs fielded by various political parties have been taken from the recently filed affidavits by these MLAs and the values of these financial assets have been compared to the corresponding values of the assets that the MLAs showed in their affidavits in 2008.
