Here’s a brief look at the films of 2012. Taking the end of the world concept too seriously, 2012 saw a release from every who-is-who of the industry including all the Khans, Kapoors, Chopra’s. A year marking debuts and comebacks and extravaganza of brand names of the industry, this year was truly a cinematic year for the Hindi film industry.
Some of the memorable efforts were-
1.Kahaani: Silk Smitha to Vidya Bagchi, Kahaani was the best surprise of the year! The film that toured you through the locales of Kolkata, left everybody saying Shhotti Bolchi.
2.OMG: The concept of God and worship, simplified and decoded! Paresh Rawal at his best!
3.Barfi: Call it a copy, a rip off, or an ode! Barfi was sweet film that charmed us all. One of the best of our times with the perfect blend of everything.
4.English Vinglish: Sridevi redefines a comebak! Simple, subtle and meaningful. English Vinglish was aquality piece of cinema.
5.Paan Singh Tomar: PST was Tigmanshu Dholia and cinema at its realistic best. Irfan Khan takes you through the other Indian’s journey, a reality that exists, but beyond your reach.
6.Vicky Donor: Talk about new age concepts and subtle romance. Vicky Donor was a heart winning piece, getting to the right pitch of commercial, yet sensible cinema.
7.Jab Tak Hai Jaan: How an 80 year old director can match up the likes of an 18 year old audience, Yash Chopra proves with his last piece of art why he is an evergreen film maker. Certainly not the best of his works, but he brings back the King of Hearts SRK, back to his romantic avatar in his last directorial venture.
8.Gangs Of Wasseypur: Keh Ke lunga! Was the buzzword with the release of this two part film by Anurag Kashyap! All the violence, gang wars, slangs, extra maritals, sex and desi masala filled this A-Kashyap making it a favorite amongst the youngsters.
While, Ek Tha Tiger, Rowdy Rathore, Agneepath, Housefull2, Bol Bachchan have been the top grossers and entertainers of the year.
While the expected highest grosser, Dabangg 2 is all set for release this weekend.
