The ongoing test series between India and England has all the makings of a riveting game of cricket. India proved on the final day of the 2nd test match at LordÔÇÖs that Dhoni and team were in it to win it. Since the first test match ended in a draw. MSD and gang were gung-ho about putting forth a compelling performance and taking a lead in the five test series. Team India didn’t fail to impress.
The Indian team tasted victory at LordÔÇÖs way back in 1986 and it took a whopping 28 years for history to repeat itself. Playing and winning at LordÔÇÖs has been on every cricketerÔÇÖs wish-list. MSD with his fairly new and inexperienced team has proved the critics wrong with the teamÔÇÖs exceptional sportsmanship. This victory is doubly sweet since itÔÇÖs also IndiaÔÇÖs first win overseas since 2011.
India put into bat got off on a jittery start but thanks to some rebuilding done with a ton from batsman Ajinkya Rahane took India to a decent 295 on the scoreboard. A complete team effort from the pacers especially Bhuvneshwar Kumar scalping 6 wickets managed to restrict England to 319 in their first innings. The crucial second innings for India was spearheaded by Murali Vijay who missed out on a well-deserved 100. With a few hiccups that followed it was up to Sir Ravindra Jadeja to re-build the scoreboard. And he impressed with his vital 68 runs along with Bhuvneshwar KumarÔÇÖs third 50 in the series helped take IndiaÔÇÖs lead to a great score of 318.
England in their second innings tried to play with caution and work their way to a victory but there was a storm waiting to rip through their batsmen. IndiaÔÇÖs star for the second innings Ishant Sharma led from the front as the pacers worked hard to restrict England and wrap up the match. The hardwork paid off and Ishant ended with his best figures in a test match as he grabbed 7 crucial wickets that turned the match around for India. Ravindra Jadeja running out last man Anderson marked IndiaÔÇÖs historic win at LordÔÇÖs which will be etched in everyoneÔÇÖs memories. The last time India won a test at LordÔÇÖs the squad won the series. Can history repeat itself? Guess hopefully we will have to wait and watch.
