Decoding the Distance

Whenever a new person hears about a long distance relationship, their usual response is bewilderment, surprise and a bucket load of questions. Do such relationships even exist? Why would you want to be with someone who you donÔÇÖt see most of the time since he/she doesn’t live in the same city anyway? ┬áWell they exist all right, and everyday thereÔÇÖs hundreds of brave couples who spend another day in the attempt to bridge the distance and celebrate the love. ┬áThe situation they survive in may not be ideal, but when thereÔÇÖs love involved, anything else pales in comparison.

A long distance is like a massive adventure. There are a million reasons this could go wrong, but if done right, it can also be the best thing that has ever happened to you. They may have their own set of problems, but they also have a silver lining. ┬áThe distance helps your relationship go from┬ástrength┬áto strength and let you grow as individuals. It may be hard to be apart, but it makes you value of ┬á your significant other. When thereÔÇÖs a person on the other end who means the world to you, every doubt, every fight is just temporary.

You learn to be grateful to technology as it makes your partner seem closer when you aren’t together. You learn to value the Skype dates, the phone calls, the simple efforts and the love letters. When you are apart, you have your own life to lead and your own set of priorities and friends. However when youÔÇÖre together, itÔÇÖs like nothing has changed. Every precious minute that you can snatch will be priceless. You will exist under the illusion of normalcy, until itÔÇÖs that inevitable time to say goodbye again. The biggest lesson of a long distance would be that no matter how far away, there is a person who loves you and the rest is just a bunch of numbers.

A long distance is a beautiful example of love and deserves a lot more credit than it gets. If you have found someone you want to be with, donÔÇÖt let distance hold you back. Go ahead and embark on this adventure. ItÔÇÖll be the best decision that youÔÇÖll take. DonÔÇÖt measure the miles that exist between you, measure the love. After all, when thereÔÇÖs someone who matters so much, distance means very little, doesn’t it?
