Cake Crafting

A cake is a great way to make an impression whether for a wedding, a birthday, christening or any other event. Khushi Malani, founder of Sweet Success, a UAE based company, is all set to introduce Mumbai to her cake craft workshops.

Cakekraft India is a cake decorating institute. “For the beginners we have an introductory course on cake decorating and how to work with fondant and for the advanced we have several detailed workshops and courses designed to teach carving, sculpting, airbrushing etc. We also teach how to bake gravity-defying cakes that go up to 8 inches tall and give the impression of leaning over. Apart from that, you will learn figure modelling, animal modelling, 3D shoes, how to bake 2 tier cakes, hamburger cake, carve a cushion cake and more. All cakes, fondant & supplies will be provided for the class. The completed cake can be taken home.” says Khushi Malani.

She has done the Wilton cake decorating course from US and an advanced cake decorating course from Knightsbridge PME from UK.

“I thought of initiating this venture because most cakes that are sold or available, lack the finish and detailing. I realised that people like to convert their passion into themed-cakes. Children’s cakes are my specialty – because kids have such specific preferences – from Spiderman and Tom n Jerry to Rapunzel and Micky Mouse,” says her.
In order to pursue a career in caking decorating one needs a basic sense of design and keen interest to learn.

She says that there is an increasing opportunity in this area. Pastry chefs are fast becoming a new breed by themselves. “People will always pay a premium for something that is customised and suits their lifestyle and passion,” adds Khushi Malani.
For those aspiring to follow her foot steps she says, “Stay dedicated and focused. Don’t be afraid to experiment. Your fantasy is equal to your cake.”
