Four batch mates of IIT Kanpur have started an online portal, www.bluegape.com to personalize the shopping experience of the customer.
At Bluegape customers can select from the ‘personalisable’ products like t-shirts, mugs, posters and create their own designs or select from the online design library for it. One can order for the products online and Bluegape ensures the delivery within three days.
Sahil Baghla (21) CEO of the company says, “It was the idea of personalized shopping that struck our mind. It perhaps had something to do with our mindset as a shopper. We thought that perhaps we could stimulate the creativity of the customer or help them make products themselves?
“We wanted to add some meaning to people’s life and let them flaunt their attitude to the entire world, adds Mukesh Chopra (20) COO of the company.
The initial hiccup that the company faced was to find a talented web developer to create the website. Their junior, Ayush Varshney (19) became their Chief Technical Officer . He completed designing the entire site in just 10 days.
In addition to this sealing a deal with a good printing unit was a huge challenge. With just
Rs 5,000 in the bank account they didn’t have money for customer acquisition or marketing.
“Initially the cost for packaging and delivering was high but somehow we have managed to stay profitable,” Sahil Baghla says proudly.
Today the company is funded by TLabs an Incubation Program by Times. The company profited by Rs 10 lakh in the last quarter and is growing at 200% per month. They have their head office in New Delhi and there are eight people at present working at Bluegape.
“Passion is something that drives and inspires to do business but Money is the lifeline of business. Most of the startups fail because they ignore one of the above two,” says Akash Rastogi (21) who is the Chief Design Officer at Bluegape.
In the coming days they are planning to add more personalized products like mouse pads, calendars, watches, teddy bears, pendants, Iphone/Ipad cases, beer glasses and jigsaw puzzles!
